Hello, treasure hunter!
You came in for one thing, and now there are four boxes on the shelf that were not there last time. This happens in Moonstone. Goblin King Games do not do a slow drip of one release a quarter, they do a handful at once and then let you work out what you need.
So let us work it out.
Some quick grounding if you are new. In Moonstone you and your opponent agree a troupe size before the game, and the rulebook's recommendation for a two-player game is six characters each. Three players, four each. Four players, three each.
That number is the whole reason this game buys differently from every other miniatures game you have played. There is no army to build over eighteen months. Six models is a force, and a Troupe Box gets you a serious chunk of one in a single purchase.
Keep that in mind, because it changes what "good value" means here.
Gribbleboggers: Three Goblins, Half a Troupe
The Vibe: Wenda Wetbones. Syril Swampfoot. Stilts Kim. Nobody names a model Stilts Kim by accident.
Gribbleboggers is a Troupe Box holding three Dominion Goblins, each with a stat card. Against a recommended six-model troupe, that is half a force in one $41 purchase.
The Playstyle: Goblins are the Dominion's answer to the question "what if we just committed to the bit". They are the largest keyword group in the game and they behave like it, which is to say cheaply and without dignity.
- Best thing about it: it is half a troupe that already works together, so the remaining slots are decisions rather than chores. You are not filling gaps, you are choosing whether to bolt on a heavy hitter or patch whatever these three turn out to be bad at.
- The catch: three Goblins is three Goblins. If your instinct is a balanced, sensible line, this box is going to feel like a commitment.
- Price: $41.
Buy it if: you want to be halfway to a troupe in one purchase, and the idea of a Goblin named Wenda Wetbones makes you smile rather than sigh.
Bejiminy: A Very Large Goblin
The Vibe: most Moonstone models are people-sized. Bejiminy is not.
This is a single large Dominion Goblin, sold alone at $35. In a game where a troupe is six models and you chose every one of them, each slot is an argument you have to win, and a model this size has to earn its place by doing something the rest of your troupe simply cannot.
Here is the objection, said out loud: one model for $35 when a Troupe Box gives you three or four for a little more. That is a fair thing to notice, and you should notice it.
The answer is that Moonstone is a game about what your opponent believes. Deployment is alternating, one model at a time within 10" of your table edge, so a model that size is visible and being planned around from the moment it hits the board. Sometimes that is worth more than an extra body.
Buy it if: you already own a troupe and want the slot that changes how the other player deploys. Skip it if this is your first Moonstone purchase, and start with a Troupe Box instead.
Rogues Gallery: The Themed One
The Vibe: four models that actually belong together, which is rarer than it sounds.
Rogues Gallery is a Troupe Box with Nancy Priston, Skuggi, Streatham and Pickles at $50. All four carry the Rogue keyword, and three of them are also Cultists. Between them they cover Animal, Faun, Goblin and Human.
That is the part worth understanding. This is not four unrelated models sharing a box. Keywords are how Moonstone troupes hang together, so a box where all four share one is a box where the models are pulling in the same direction on the table, not just on the shelf.
- Best thing about it: four models in one purchase, which is two thirds of a recommended troupe and the largest single step toward one on this page.
- The keyword spread means it plays into more than one build later rather than being a dead end.
- Price: $50, which is the best per-model number of the four boxes here.
Buy it if: you want one box that gets you most of the way to a coherent troupe without agonising over every pick.
The 'Insatiable' Wendigo: Ten Years, Limited Run
The Vibe: Goblin King Games have been doing this for a decade, and they marked it with a run of limited edition sculpts.
This is one of them, at $39, and it comes with its own alternate art stat card. The Wendigo is a Leshavult model, and it is both a Faun and a Spirit, which reads very differently across a table than another duelist in a nice coat.
We are not going to oversell this one. It is a limited anniversary sculpt with alternate art. That is either exactly what you want or entirely beside the point, and both reactions are correct. The only honest note is the obvious one: limited runs are limited, and this is not a box that gets restocked forever.
Buy it if: you play Leshavult, or you collect the anniversary sculpts, or you saw the words "alternate art stat card" and had already decided.
So Which One?
If you own no Moonstone at all: Rogues Gallery. Four models, one shared keyword, two thirds of a recommended troupe for $50. It is the cleanest entry of the four by a distance.
If you already play Dominion: Gribbleboggers, and then argue with yourself about Bejiminy for a week like the rest of us.
If you play Leshavult: you already scrolled back up to the Wendigo. We saw you.
